The NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research centre provided support for SNP profiling in prostate cancer, building on resources supported by NIHR HTA, MRC and NCRI. The extensive bio-repository from the ProtecT Trial (NIHR HTA programme) and ProMPT (MRC / NCRI) was critical to the discovery of 13 novel SNPs in prostate cancer. Subsequent results identifying further prostate cancer susceptibility loci7,8 have led to a collaboration with the Dana'Farber Cancer Institute funded by NCI to determine their functional impact in prostate cancer.
