Core Biochemical Assay Laboratory (CBAL)

CBAL is situated in a refurbished laboratory on Level 4 of the Addenbrooke’s Pathology block.

CBAL is currently CPA-accredited as part of the NHS Department of Clinical Biochemistry. We will be applying for ISO15189 accreditation in the near future. CBAL has systems in place that enables us to store and retrieve samples and assay reports efficiently.

CBAL is currently staffed by six highly skilled NHS Biomedical Scientists who are funded by the Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre. All staff have received GCP training and participate in CPD schemes.

Since its inception in 2008 CBAL has worked closely with research groups across the CUH Campus including the Institute of Metabolic Sciences, Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, Cancer Research UK and the MRC Epidemiology Unit. CBAL has also helped with the development of assays for local commercial organisations such as ProteinLogic, Takeda and UroSens.
